<p>Graphic Novelist <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynda_Barry" target="_blank"><strong>Lynda Barry</strong></a> will present the <strong>2010 Foundation Lecture</strong> at <strong><a href="http://www.temple.edu/tyler/" target="_blank">Tyler School of Art</a> </strong>on Tuesday, March 23 at 10:30am. Ms. Barry will discuss her book <strong>What It Is</strong>, which is based on &ldquo;Writing the Unthinkable&rdquo;, her tried and true creative method that is playful, powerful and accessible to anyone with an inquisitive wish to write or remember.<br />
<br />
<strong>Lynda Barry</strong> has worked as a painter, cartoonist, writer, illustrator, playwright, editor, commentator, and teacher (and claims to have found them more or less all alike). She is well known for her syndicated strip <strong>Ernie Pook&rsquo;s Comeek</strong>, as well as her books <strong>One!Hundred!Demons!, The!Greatest!of!Marlys!</strong> and <strong>The Good Times are Killing Me</strong>. She also edited the 2008 edition of <strong>The Best American Comics</strong>.</p>

<p>On Friday, March 12, <strong><a href="http://www.thesecretcinema.com/" target="_blank"><strong>The Secret Cinema</strong></a></strong> will present the latest in its periodic explorations of cartoons from Hollywood's golden age, with the special program <em><strong>Surrealism in American Animation</strong></em>.</p>
<p><em><strong>Surrealism in American Animation</strong></em> will offer a sampling of the craziest, most imaginative, and funniest creations from the pens of classic Hollywood animators, with an emphasis on rarely shown films, from studios famous and obscure. These cartoons -- shown using scarce, beautiful prints culled from private archives, many in glorious I.B. Technicolor or shimmering black and white -- display the full range of classic animators' art and craft. Most of these cartoons have never been shown before by the Secret Cinema.</p>

<div align="left">PHILADELPHIA and BRYN MAWR &ndash; First Person Arts (FPA) and the Bryn Mawr Film Institute (BMFI) present Warning: Graphic Content on Tuesday, March 9 at 7pm, as part of Philagrafika and One Book, One Philadelphia. This multimedia presentation explores the genre of the graphic memoir across multiple forms. Three leading artists&ndash; Daniel Heyman, Jamar Nicholas, and Josh Neufeld &ndash; will present their work and discuss how they create it. A screening of the film Persepolis, based on the graphic memoir by Marjane Satrapi, will follow the discussion.<br />
<br />
THE ARTISTS - Prisoner abuse connected to the Iraq War has influenced the recent work of Philadelphia artist Daniel Heyman, who incorporates the words prisoners speak to him as he draws them. Philadelphia-based comics artist Jamar Nicholas is working on a new, graphic version of Geoffrey Canada&rsquo;s powerful memoir Fist Stick Knife Gun. Josh Neufeld&rsquo;s work gives the graphic treatment to his personal life and historical events, including the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.</div>
